Adobe Acrobat Pro X Stuck On Loading System Fonts Pdf With Embedded

If want to open a pdf with embedded font and i receive this message (sorry, translated by me from french) Impossible to extract the embedded font GILKACDIN-Regular.

Some characters maybe display incorrectly or do not print well.

We have this same problem when we use our Vector Works drawing program; we use the DIN font which is a postscript Type 1 font.

Then, when we export the file as a pdf, the font does not display in Acrobat 10.1.13; when you open the file, you get the same message as shown above, and there is no text visible (other fonts do show, though).

DIN fonts - the problem doesnt occur in version 10.1.12 - and it also doesnt when we use DIN truetype font So should we change our font sets from postscript type 1 to truetype.

If you go to FileProperties, it should show you the application name that created the file.

For instance the file named pdf-problem-font.pdf posted above was created by Apple Pages via the Mac OS X Quartz PDFContext engine.

Try creating the PDF file with FilePrintSave As Adobe PDF to see if you get the same result.

Indesign to PDF works fine by the way (at least in my expoerience).

So you used the Save As Adobe PDF Automator Workflow from the PDF button in the Print dialog and you get the same result Interesting that InDesigns export works though.

Earlier versions of Acrobat Reader could actually crash later in the session having read that font data, due to the incorrect information contained inside.

As such, we now recognize the problem earlier on and prevent the bad font from loading - and inform you accordingly.

Since InDesign has no problem using this font but applications using Apple Quartz do, it leads me to believe that the fault is in Quartz and its (lack of) support for that very old Postscript font.

While I cant speak on any authority, I would suspect that moving to a modern font format (such as OpenType) would most likely solve your problem.

We are going to use a True Type or Open Type font for all our future work.

However, were still stuck with a huge part of the problem, namely that all our earlier work is now unreadable.

All our construction drawings are in pdf, theyre stored in municipal archives of the building regulation as official documents, theyre part of contracts with our clients and contractors, our invoices have text missing, also stored in financial archives and cannot be read anymore.

For us it is still catastrophic, and the only solution (so far as i see it) would be to fix the sensibilty to this problem (which of course is the source, i understand) back to the way it was, because we simply cannot convert all our work of the past ten years to a new font type.

There are much more recent updates to that font (well be checking to see if a newer version of that font has the same bug).

Could your provide us at Adobe with more information about the font itself When was it licensed From what font foundry If you can contact me via private message on this forum, maybe we can get to the bottom of this problem, at least as to its real magnitude.
